John Vernie Folsom

FOLSOM, JOHN VERNIE, (?) – October 10, 1918

John Vernie Folsom of Cederhill, was killed in action in France in October. He is the first soldier who went from Oneida County to make the supreme sacrifice. Notification of his death was received by his parents on the 25th day of November.

John Vernie Folsom was among the contingent of boys who left Oneida County on the 10th day of October on the 10th day of October, 1917.

He is survived by a mother and father, who live at Cheroleh, Washington, and two brothers, who are in the service.

John Vernie Folsom was one of the most industrious famers of the Cedarhill section. The high esteem in which he was held by the people of the Cedarhill section was evidenced by the farewell reception given in his honor just before he left, when one of the biggest crowds that have ever assembled in that village was present to bid him farewell.

Oneida County joins with the people of his neighborhood in paying honor to this young hero. His name will be held in reverence by the citizens of this county, and the memory of his sacrifice will inspire a greater love for our institutions and fuller appreciation of the price of liberty and freedom.
