JOHN ROGHAAR

John Roghaar, 84, former Grace mayor, dies in S. L. C.

Funeral services were held in Salt Lake City Wednesday, Feb. 12th, for John Roghaar, 84, who died Sunday [February 9, 1969] in a Salt Lake City hospital of natural causes.

Mr. Roghaar was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the son of Margriet Kater and Andrew Roghaar. He immigrated with his family to Ogden in 1894 and was educated there. He married Grace Vander Heide, Dec. 9, 1908, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died in 1967. The family lived in various Idaho communities where Mr. Roghaar operated stores. He served as mayor of Grace, member of the Grace school board and was a charter member of the Grace Lions Club. The family moved in 1945 to Salt Lake City where he engaged in real estate business.

An active High Priest in the LDS Church, he had served as bishop of the Grace Second Ward and was also a Temple ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He served a mission in the Netherlands, 1904-07, and he and Mrs. Roghaar, a mission in the Central States, 1943-45.

Surviving are seven sons and daughters including Mrs. H. Ward (Helen) Thomas, Malad; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a sister at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
