JOHN MORGAN MIFFLIN CALLED BY DEATH
Funeral services for John Morgan Mifflin, 80, early settler of Malad valley, farmer and sheepman, who died Friday night, Nov. 8, 1946, in a Salt lake hospital, were held at the Malad Stake tabernacle Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to leaving the home, Mrs. Helen Ossmen played a violin solo and james B. Jones offered the prayer. At the church, Bishop Jess Hughes presided and Huber Gleed conducted the services. Mrs. S.A. Hendricks played the organ prelude and postlude. A mixed quartet under the direction of Melvin Atkinson sang two numbers, accompanied by his wife. The opening prayer was by Jos. A. Jones and a biographical sketch was given by Bishop Hughes. Pres. E.N. Crowther, Jake Kern and Dr. O.H. Mabey were the speakers. Howell M. Williams rendered a vocal solo; Helen Ossmen rendered a violin solo with Wesley Crowther as organ accompanist.

The benediction was offered by J. Peter Jensen.

Interment was in the Cherry Creek cemetery with John M. Richards dedicating the grave.

Mr. Mifflin was born June 11, 1866, in Salt Lake City, a son of Howell Hopkins and Celia Morgan Mifflin. In his younger life he freighted with his father between Corinne, Utah and Dillon, Montana. He received his early education in Salt Lake City and was a graduate of Brigham Young academy.

He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having filled a mission in the New England states and served as an officer in the Mutual Improvement Assn. and Sunday School. He was a high priest at the time of his death.

Survivors include his widow, Esther D. Mifflin; five daughters, Mrs. Rachel Brumson and Mrs. DeVota Peterson, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ada Holm, Shelley, Idaho; Mrs. Sara Lawson and Mrs. Celia Beebe, Portland, Ore.; one son, Howell E. Mifflin, Ruth, Nev.; two brothers, Edward Mifflin, Salt Lake City; Harry Mifflin, Brigham City and a sister Mrs. Millie Adams, Long Beach, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
