John M. Pierce (Jack) of Laie Hawaii, passed away at his home September 23, 2010 following an extended illness. Jack was born in St. John (Malad, Idaho) Dec. 6, 1924 to John Morgan and Estella Harris Pierce. At the age of 16 his family moved to Ogden, where he made his home until 1959.
Jack married Ilene Taylor on November 30, 1945. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 14, 1957. She remained by his side until her death in 1991. He missed her tremendously.
In 1959 Jack and his family moved from Ogden to supervise the construction of LDS meeting houses in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. In 1961 he accepted a call to serve a Building Mission and moved with his family to Hawaii. Following his mission he made his home in Laie.
Jack was active in the various wards in Laie until his death. He served as Seventy, Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader and Bishop of the BYU 11th ward. He was temple ordinance worker in the Laie Hawaii LDS Temple for 22 years. At the time of his retirement in 1989 he was the Physical Plant Supervisor at BYU Hawaii. Jack and his son, Keith formed Pierce Construction Company in Laie, in 1990. He continued to play a key role in that company until his illness.
Jack is survived by his sons, Larry (Kay) of Ogden, Utah (recently of Las Vegas, NV); and Keith (Debra) of Laie, Hawaii; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene; his parents, John and Stella; his sister Lorraine; his three brothers, Everett, Cleon and Garth, daughter-in-law, Shirlene and one granddaughter, Shirley Anne.
Funeral Services will be held in the Laie Hawaii Stake Center Tuesday, September 28 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Laie Cemetery.
