John J. Roderick, (1908)

RODERICK, JOHN J., April 30, 1908 – March 12, 2008

John J. Roderick, 99, returned to the loving arms of his sweet wife, Vera, on March 12, 2008. He passed away holding his daughter’s hand.

John came into this world on April 30, 1908 in Samaria, ID, the oldest son of John Price Roderick and Ethel Mary John.

When John was 17, he was called to serve in the German-Austrian mission. Upon returning, married his childhood sweetheart, Vera Price on May 15, 1925 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were the parents of two children, John J. Roderick and Vera patsy Roderick.

His wife, Vera, passed away in 1976 after 47 years together. In December, 1977 he married Mary Emma Williams in the Ogden, UT Temple.

They traveled extensively during their marriage with their dear friends, LaMar and Margaret Thomas. Mary Emma passed away in 2005.

He was very active in his church callings, which included Bishop of the Pleasantview Ward for 11 ½ years, Malad Stake high Council , Stake Mission president, Stake Sunday School superintendent and many more.

He was active in the community and joked that he served on every board that didn’t pay. Some of his favorites were being a member of the Malad Valley Posse and Malad Square Dance Club. John was an old cowboy with a clear memory of happenings in our beautiful valley.

He died one month short of his 100th birthday. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Patsy and Andrew Bybee of Pleasantview; his eight grandchildren: Todd John (Latricia) Bybee, Providence, UT; Tracy Norr, Sandy, UT; A. Chad (DaNeil) Bybee, Soda Springs; Gregory R. (Rosalynn) Bybee, McCammon, ID; Pamela Vera (Nolan) Gunnel, Wellsville, UT; Monica (Jared) Green, Pleasantview, ID; Corey Roderick (Ruth) Bybee, Pleasant View, UT; Alexis Ann Bybee, Malad, ID. Surviving also are 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

His parents, sisters, Bertha Howard and Ruth Harris Hays; son, Jack; wives, Vera and Mary Emma; and two great-grandsons, Nathan Robert Bybee and Albert Jon Bybee preceded him in death. He also had five brothers and sisters who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held March 17, 2008 in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Burial followed in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
