John McAllister, County Auditor, Dies Saturday

Funeral servces for John Henry McAllister, 54, who died at the Oneida Hospital Saturday night of pneumonia, (no date) were held Wednesday at the Malad Stake building with Bishop Colen H. Sweeten of the Fourth Ward officiating.

Family prayer at the home was offered by Oren J. Jones; invocation, Dr. O.H. Mabey; benediction, U.H. Conley; dedicatory prayer, L.R. Budge. The obituary was given by Ralph Harding. Speakers were D. LeRoy Thomas and Jesse Hughes.

Musical numbers were a duet, Mary Alice Williams and Helen John; duet Carma Ferguson and Erna Stephenson; solo, Helen C. Condie. Prelude and postlude music was played by Wesley Crowther.

Flowere were carried by nieces and cousins under the supervision of the Fourth Ward Relief Society.

Casket bearers were James Evans, Neil Thomas, Jess Thomas, Oren Jones, Clarence Jones and Thomas H. Chivers.

Mr. MeAllister was born February 4, 1903 at McAllister, Montana, the sixth child and only son of John H. and Elleanor J. Jones McAllister. At the age of three, his family moved to St. John where he attended grade school. He was very active in sports and was president of he student body during his senior year at Malad High School.

He married Merle L. Ashton in Brigham City October 24, 1927. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

An elder in the LDS church, he has served as a ward teacher and was assistant ward clerk at the time of his death.

He was employed in the I.E.R.A., in 1935-36 and in the resettlement office during 1937-38.

In 1938, Mr. McAllister filed on the Democratic ticket for County clerk, auditor and recorder. He was elected and has held this office continually to the time of his death.

Preceeding him in death were his parents, three sisters and a son, John Boyd McAllister.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Della, Malad; Mrs. LuDell (Gwen) Waldron, son-in-law, Ludell Waldron, and a granddaughter, Karen Logan; two sisters, Mrs. Dan (Anna Mae) Thomas, Malad; Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Bray, San Francisco.

Interment was in the Malad Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
