John F. Fredrickson

FREDRICKSON, JOHN F., January 30, 1881 – February 3, 1967

Funeral services for John F. Fredrickson, 86, who died Friday at the Oneida Hospital of a heart ailment, were held Monday at the Malad 2nd Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Max King officiating.

The family prayer at the Funeral Home was by Bishop Leo H. Brown.

At the chapel the prelude and postlude music was by Iris Barker; invocation, Nolan P. Olsen; obituary and remarks, Bishop King; vocal solo, Leora Brown; speakers, Wendell Welling, Don W. Clegg; benediction, Clark Hubbard; accompanist, Iris Barker.

The concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery with Raiford Benson offering the dedicatory prayer. Casket bearers were Dewey Fredrickson, Michael Jacoby, Farrel Neal, Lorin Richards, John Warner, Howard Briggs, Joe May, J.T. Thorpe.

Honorary bearers were Leff Larson, Thoms Jones, Raymond Evans, Laverne Colton, Lawrence Jones, Melvin Davis, Verdie Wharton, Will John.

A son of Peter and Anna Johnson Fredrickson, Mr. Fredrickson was born January 30, 1881 in Malad City. He received his early education at the grammar school of the Presbyterian Mission in Malad and was graduated in 1905 from Utah State University, Logan, with a bachelor’s degree in business.

On September 12, 1906 he married Mary Lovean Olsen at Logan and they came to Malad to make their home. Manager of the R.T. Owens Company for several years before establishing his abstract and realtor business, Mr. Fredrickson also had an automobile agency here.

Serving as secretary of the Federal land Bank, Mr. Fredrickson became interested in land and water conservation and was an active proponent of construction of reservoirs and other water conserving measures.

A charter member of the Malad Lions Club which he helped to organize in May, 1923, Mr. Fredrickson also served as president of the Idaho Farm Bureau in 1949.

Preceding him in death was a son, John F. Fredrickson, Jr., in 1934 and his wife who died December 19, 1956.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Lois) Warner, Twin Falls, and Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy) Jacoby, Laramie, WY; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one brother and four sisters, Jonas D. Fredrickson and Mrs. Ida Rapp, both of Sacramento, CA; Mrs. D.P. (Gladys) Jones, Malad; Mrs. Dudley (Grace) Jardine, Idaho Falls and Mrs. Milton (Elsie) LaTurin, Kansas City, MO.
