JIM L. RUSSELL
Jim L. Russell, 65, of Pocatello, passed away Monday afternoon, July 24, 2000, at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 4, 1935, in Independence, Kansas, the only son of Darrell and Leona E. Salisbury Russell. He attended schools in Independence, Kansas, where he graduated from high school, and later received his B.A. degree from George Washington University.

On May 25, 1974, he married Sally Randolph in Bermuda Island, and their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Washington, D.C., temple on May 13, 1978.

Jim served 26 years in the U.S. Navy, with action at the end of the Korean War, and three tours in Vietnam. He worked himself up through the enlisted ranks in the Medical Service Corps, and became an officer, retiring as a lieutenant commander.

He enjoyed model railroading and glass etching. He also loved to read, and liked British comedy. He was past president of the Center of Resources for Independent People (CRIP). His last employment was as a people greeter at the Pocatello/Chubbuck Wal-Mart Store for the past seven years.

He was a convert to the LDS Church, and had served in various capacities including high priest group leader, and was presently serving as a stake missionary.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Russell, Pocatello; his mother, Leona Pursley, Chanute, Kansas; stepmother, Louise Russell, Independence, Kansas; three daughters, Amy (Ben) Crane, Chubbuck, Idaho, Amanda Russell and Ashley Russell, both of Pocatello; a sister, Nancy (Bill) Carl, Chanute, Kansas; two granddaughters, Arminda and Lara Crane, Chubbuck, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, 2000 at the LDS North Pocatello Stake Center. Interment was in the Mountainview Cemetery with military rites performed by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard and Naval Reserve.
