MY GRANDFATHER
Together we stood, my Grandpa and I,
Ever so gently he took my hand,
Then we walked down the road,
Side by side, across the land.

We spoke of the past. He and I,
He told of his life and dreams.
Squeezing my hand, we slowed our pace,
Bathing in the early morning sunbeams.

He shared all the bright moments,
The times of achievement and glory.
Giving all the credit to our Lord,
Bearing his testimony with each story.

All my questions he answered,
Every rough spot he helped cross,
Guiding with his examples of love
Praying together we overcame all loss.

Grandpa walked close by my side,
Not once did his gait ever falter.
Teaching me through constant obedience.
Expressing his pride as I knelt at the alter.

Now all alone I stand on the road,
Tears in my eyes, fear in my heart.
I am afraid to venture on alone,
Not quite sure how I should start.

Yet as I stand I am not alone,
For Grandpa’s memory fills my soul.
And soon we’ll be walking hand in hand,
Together sharing our eternal, celestial goal.
