Jeralyn Diane Harrison Thomas, 28 September 1936

Jeralyn Diane Harrison Thomas, 60, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died October 17, 1996 as the result of a car accident.

She was born September 28, 1936 in Malad, the seventh child and fourth daughter of Jess and Lily Harrison. She attended elementary and high school in Malad. She married Jess M. Thomas on September 24, 1954. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 28, 1957. She is the mother of six children and the grandmother of 15 grandchildren. She worked part time for many years as an auditor for Audits and Surveys of New York. Diane was known for her homemade candies and chocolates that she distributed during the holidays.

Diane was a wondrous and remarkable woman of faith, who taught family love and Christian values by her constant never-ending service and sacrifice for her family and friends. Diane loved to read, work in her flower gardens and make other people happy by countless acts of kindness and giving to others. She tenderly loved babies and little children.

She is survived b y her husband Jess M. Thomas of Hyrum; four sons, Bryan Jess Thomas, Brad Lee Thomas, Jonathan Daniel Thomas and Jeremy Scott Thomas; two daughters: Lori Ann Fackrell and Celia Lyne Parham; four brothers: Wayne, Leon, Deane, and Jess Harrison; three sisters, Connie Pugsley, Jacqueline Marsh and Joyce Shanks; 15 grandchildren. Diane was a blessing to all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.

Funeral services were held October 21 in Hyrum 9th Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Hyrum City Cemetery.

HYRUM WOMAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT

A Hyrum woman, a former Malad resident, passed away October 17, 1996 from injuries incurred October 16 when the car she was traveling in was struck as it crossed US Highway 89-91 on Utah 101 in Wellsville.

A Utah Highway patrol press release said Diane Harrison Thomas, 60, of Hyrum was a passenger in a car driven by Verda Nelson. Nelson’s car was crossing US 89-91 at about 8 p.m. when it was struck by a van driven by Leslie Muir, 37, address unknown. Nelson was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.

Thomas and Nelson were taken to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance and Thomas was flown by helicopter to LDS Hospital where she died.

Nelson remained in Logan Regional Hospital with internal injuries and Muir suffered only minor injuries and was not treated.
