Jenkin Jones, 17 February 1924

LAYTON – Jenkin Jones, 79, died December 7, 2003 at Davis Hospital and Medical Center following a short illness.

He was born February 17, 1924 in Malad, ID to Thomas and Lula Birdie Lundquist Jones. He was raised in Malad attending Malad schools and after graduating, attended Utah State College.

While at Utah State, Jenkin met Hila Maxine Johnson. They were married December 29, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple and built their home in Malad to raise their family. Maxine preceded him in death. He married Lola Burnett on December 9, 1966 and she also preceded him in death.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions including Scout Master, Stake Missionary leader and Sunday School teacher. He was ordained to the Seventy’s in his late twenties and then as a High Priest until his death.

He was a farmer, well driller and cattleman.

Jenkin served honorably during World War Ii with the US Army and was stationed in the Pacific.

He loved to sing and musical talent was abundant in his family. He sang for numerous funerals and wedding receptions. He loved singing folk songs, love songs and Christmas Carols. He was looking forward to playing Santa again this Christmas season because his personality was so jolly. We will miss his beautiful tenor voice and his sense of humor.

Surviving are his children: Barbara (J. Robertson, Jr) Edward, Ogden; Jenine Thiel, Layton; Brian (Kathy) Jones, Hurricane; Kevin Jones, Jackson Hole, WY; David Jones, Salt Lake City; stepchildren, Donna Burnett, Ogden; William (Barbara) Burnett, Clearfield; Marian (Ethel) Burnett, West Virginia; George (Adell) Thompson, Jr., Salt Lake City; 37 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren and 33 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, parents, a brother, Vernon, sisters, LaPriel and Ethel, and grandchildren, James R. Edward III and Kristy J. Jones.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Interment, Malad City Cemetery.
