James E. Madson Dies After Long Illness

Salem. March 28 – James E. Madson, highly respected citizen of this place died March 30, 1914 after a lingering illness of more than two years of cancer. Mr. Madson was born January 29, 1844 in Denmark. He joined the church and came to Utah in 1879 when he settled in Salem, which had since been his home. He is survived by a wife and nine children, eight sons and one daughter, besides 22 grandchildren.

During a useful and exemplary life, J.E. Madson has held many positions of public trust both civil and ecclesiastical. He served for many years as chairman of the board of education.

In his departure the community feel to mourn the death of a noble and valiant worker in the cause of truth.
