Funeral services were held Monday at Los Angeles, California, for Jacob Newhouse, 84, who died April 18, after a prolonged heart ailment.
Mr. Newhouse was born Nov. 12, 1867 at Bern Switzerland. He was married May 13, 1898 to Elizabeth Rosa Ruegsegger and they came to America in 1905, bringing their two oldest children. He joined the L.D.S. church in 1907 and they received their endowments the same year in the Logan Temple.
They settled in Daniels in 1910 where Mr. Newhouse engaged in farming. They left Malad in 1930 and have since lived in Rupert, Idaho until late in 1951 when they moved to Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, six sons and daughters: Mrs. Burnett Smith, Malad; Fred Newhouse, Bell Gardena, Calif.; Mrs. Milton Jones, Los Angeles; Mrs. William H. Ward, Huntington Park, Cal.; Oliver Newhouse and Lloyd K. Newhouse, Rupert; one sister, Elisa Newhouse, Bern, Switzerland; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Mrs. William H. Reed, of St. John in 1943.
