GIBBS, J. HYRUM, September 5, 1892 – December 25, 1971
J. Hyrum Gibbs, 79, Portage, Utah, died December 25, 1971 in an Ogden hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services were conducted at Portage LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Glen Morris officiating. Speakers were Wendell Hall, Pres. Devere harris, Bishop Morris and Mary Allen Price who read a tribute. Leo Delos Gibbs offered the family prayer; William H. Gibbs, the invocation and Golden Gibbs, the benediction. Special music included a vocal solo, Douglas Gibbs, and a male quartet, Bishop Morris, Joseph Morris, Douglas Gibbs and Wynn John. Tonya H. Smith played prelude and postlude music and was the accompanist.
Dedicatory prayer at Portage City Cemetery was offered by Jeffery J. Gibbs. Honorary bearers were members of Malad Stake high Priests and casket bearers were Bryon Gibbs, Clayne Gibbs, Earl James Gibbs, Gary Gibbs, Kim Gibbs, Terrall Gibbs, Sidney Gibbs and Kevin Maughan. Portage Ward Relief Society, Fay G. Thomas, president, arranged the flowers. Interment was directed by Benson Funeral Home.
Mr. Gibbs was born Sept. 5, 1892 at Portage, a son of William Hl. And Letitia John Gibbs. He married Hazel Orgill March 20, 1913 at Malad and the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in October, 1915. He was a member of the LDS Church and a retired farmer.
Surviving are his widow, sons, daughters, William L., Lorin L., both of Portage; Royston O. Hunter; Leo Delos, North Salt Lake; Don V., Malad; Mrs. Devere (Velda) Harris, Portage; Mrs. Jay (Lola Mae) Maughan, Wellsville; 40 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. John B. (Louise) Allen; Mrs. Guy (Pricilla) Servoss, both of Ogden; Mrs. Naomi Larson, Long Beach, CA.
