Irene Luke Grover

GROVER, IRENE LUKE, August 31, 1909 – October 15, 2004

Irene Luke Grover, age 95, of Provo, passed away October 15, 2004 of causes incident to age. Irene was born August 31, 1909 in Junction, Utah, he daughter of George and Adella Luke.

Her childhood was spent in different parts of the world, including Utah; Madison, Wisconsin; Shanghai and Tianjin, China; and Moscow, Idaho. She went to school in China and Idaho and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics from the University of Idaho. She taught Home Economics at Midway High School in Menan, Idaho and Kendrick, Idaho.

While at the University of Idaho, she met Milton Call Grover of Rigby, Idaho, and they married July 23, 1934 in Spokane, Washington. The marriage was solemnized two days later in the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple. They lived in several cities in Idaho eventually settling in Malad where Milton worked for the University of Idaho as the Oneida County Agricultural Extension Agent. They lived in Malad for 33 years and move dto Provo in 1975 to be close to family.

Irene was active in a variety of activities related to church and community. She served in a variety of positions in the LDS Church and was a member of literary organizations in Malad. She served as an ordinance worker in the Provo, Utah Temple and served an LDS mission in the Rapid City, North Dakota Mission with her husband. Milton passed away in 1989 and she has lived alone since that time. In 1998, she moved from her home to Cove Point Retirement Community where she enjoyed being with friends and acquaintances.

Hers was a life of dedicated service to friends and family. She had five brothers and sisters, two of whom are still alive; Helen Kenworthy (Max), State College, Pennsylvania, and Charles Luke (Judy), Bellevue, Washington. She and Milton raised seven children: Milton Dee (Carole), Lone Tree, Colorado; David Luke (Maureen), Riverdale, Utah; Gary Max (Barbara), Provo; Kenneth Jay (Janet), Helena, Montana; Mark LeRoy (Ivelisse), Orem; Vicki Ann Burnham (Jon); Iona, Idaho and Nancy Elaine Jenkins (Noel), Idaho Falls, Idaho. She has 41 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her family is grateful for a full life of love and care she gave to her family and friends. Her life was lived to its fullest and her greatest concern was for others. She was grateful for the care and concern given by the staff of Cove Point.

A funeral service was held October 19 at Walker Mortuary in Provo.
