WILLIAMS, ILA MAY WALDRON, September 24, 1927 – October 26, 2004
Ila May Waldron Williams, 77, passed away October 26, 2004 at the home of her son, Merrell Williams in Allen, Texas. Ila May was born September 24, 1927 in Samaria, Oneida County, Idaho, to William Spencer and Amy Ware Waldron. She grew up in the family home with two older sisters and two younger brothers.
She has many fond memories including the time the family spent their summers at their ranch at Ten Mile.
Ila was happy to count her siblings as some of her closest lifelong friends. Ila attended school in Samaria and graduated fifth in her class from Malad High School in 1945.
After graduation, Ila May worked at South Floral and Creamery, where she met her husband, Virgil W. Williams. On June 15, 1948 she married Virgil in Samaria, Idaho at the family home. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on June 23, 1982.
Ila spent the first part of her adult life raising her two sons, Merrell and Delon, and assisting her husband on the family farm in Elkhorn. She was able to develop some lasting friendships with her neighbors. Later, Ila enjoyed working in the Oneida County Courthouse in the treasurer’s office, where she could be with people.
She was Deputy Treasurer for several years and was later elected as Oneida County Treasurer and served for two terms. She thoroughly enjoyed her association with her co-workers at the courthouse and made many friends throughout Oneida County.
After retiring, she and Virgil spent their winters in St. George, UT and enjoyed their summers on the farm in Malad Valley. Once again, Ila had the opportunity to meet new people and form lasting friendships, but her heart was always in Malad and Elkhorn.
Ila May was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She gave many hours of service, including serving in Primary presidencies, Relief Society presidencies and various teaching callings. She also enjoyed doing dramatic readings at various social functions. Ila May was always eager to play games with her grandchildren and friends.
She took pleasure in needlework and in creating many beautiful pillow cases and dish towels to give as gifts. Her grandchildren could never get enough of her cinnamon buns and rolls topped with her homemade jam, and Ila May could never get enough ice cream.
She is survived by her sons, Merrell (Jan) of Allen, TX; and Delon (Roxanne) of Bountiful, UT; four grandsons, Beau, Morgan, David and Kent; and four granddaughters, Tiffany, Natalie, Elizabeth and Alyssa; one sister, Lucille Schwartz Ipsen of Malad, ID.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her parents; one sister, Mary Howell; and two brothers, Robert and Wayne.
Funeral services were held at the Malad Stake Center on November 1, 2004. Interment was in the St. John Cemetery.
