MONTPELIER – Ila Bell Hughes Larsen, 86, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility in Montpelier, Idaho.

She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Pleasantview, Oneida, Idaho, to Sara Elizabeth Thorpe and Taliesin Hughes Jr., the youngest of six children. She attended grade school in Pleasantview and Malad High School, graduating in 1938.

She worked at J.C. Penney in Malad beginning in 1941, until she was called to serve an LDS mission in the eastern Canada mission from Dec. 1, 1946, until July 10, 1948. She returned to work for J.C. Penney as a bookkeeper, and held several callings in the church, which is where she met Verlaine Larsen at a road play.

They were engaged in April 1954 and on June 2, 1954, they were married for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple.

She had been a hard worker throughout her life, working for J.C. Penney, a clerk at King’s and as a custodian for the church. She held many callings in the church, including working in the extraction center, family history work and was a member of the DUP.

She did beautiful sewing of all kinds, kept an extravagant yard with the natural green thumb for several homes and plants.

Ila is survived by one daughter, Karen L. (Brian) Hayes; two sons, Lynn V. (Pamela) Larsen and Paul H. (Shirlene) Larsen; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlaine, a sister, Pearl Stuart and four brothers, Walter, Lloyd, Jess and and infant.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 26, at noon in the Montpelier First Ward Chapel, 485 S. Seventh St., where friends may call that morning from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery, with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
