HULBERT MERLIN ROBBINS

H. B. Robbins, 79, dies Monday

Hulbert Merlin Robbins, 79, Stone, died Monday evening [April 7, 1980] in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born December 6, 1900 in Stone, a son of Hulbert Bross and Mary Ellen Jackson Robbins. He grew up in the Stone area and attended school there. In 1921 he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission. When he returned he worked for Kennecott Copper Co. south of Salt Lake City. On January 21, 1926 he married Helen Francis Williams in the Salt Lake Temple. After his marriage he moved to Stone. She died on April 29, 1935. He married Ruth Victoria Anderson, August 25, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mr. Robbins owned and operated a farm in Stone for many years.

In 1950 he bought a grocery store in Stone, which was later named Robbins Grocery. While operating the store, he also serve as Postmaster, a job he held until his retirement in 1970. He was a Seventy in the LDS Church, had served in the Ward MIA program, and also as Stake MIA Secretary.

Survivors include his wife of Stone; 8 sons and 6 daughters: Thomas Merlin Robbins, Rex Grant Robbins, Pocatello; John Victor, Victor, Montana; David Wayne Robbins, Murray, Utah; Richard Charles Robbins, Malad; Merlin Dale, Kearns, Utah; Milton Lars Robbins, 29 Palms, California; Alvin Wilford, Stone; Mrs. Leon (Marian) Grover, Fielding, Utah; Mrs. Glenn (Hazel) Jones, Malta, Idaho; Mrs. Bill (Helen) Stratton, Pocatello; Mrs. Farrell (Eileen) Williams, Malad; Mrs. Adrian (Vicki) Minjares, Clearfield, Utah; Mary Ann Robbins, Logan, Utah.

41 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 4 sisters: Elliot Robbins, N. Ogden; Kendall J. Robbins, Snowville, Mrs. Jenny Atkinson, Ogden; Mrs. Arnold (Amy) North, Ogden; Mrs. Bert (Alberta) Marble, Malad; Mrs. Mildred Hess, Malad. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter in 1936.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the Curlew LDS Ward Chapel ion Snowville, Utah with Bishop David Eliason officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. and at the Ward Chapel Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Snowville Cemetery.
