HELEN ROGHAAR THOMAS
MALAD – Helen Roghaar Thomas, 86, wife of the late H. Ward Thomas, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2000, in Provo, Utah, where she had made her home the past year.

She was born April 20, 1914, in Grace, Idaho, a daughter of John and Grace Vanderheide Roghaar. She was reared and educated in Grace and was a graduate of Grace High School class of 1932. She later graduated from Albion State Normal in June of 1934 and received a B.A. degree from Utah State University.

She married H. Ward Thomas on July 19, 1939, in the Logan LDS Temple. Helen had taught grades 1 to 4 in Thatcher, Idaho, for two years and fourth grade in Malad for 23 years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served on the Primary and Relief Society Stake Boards and as Stake Relief Society president. She was a member of the American Legion War Mothers, serving as president and treasurer of the local chapter and treasurer of the state organization.

She is survived by a son, Don (Clara) Thomas of Roy, Utah; daughter, Kathleen (James B.) McDonald of Provo, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tim, in 1976; her husband H. Ward, on April 30, 1999; three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2000, at 12 noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Malad, on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
