HARRIS, HELEN PRICE, December 11, 1915 – February 5, 2008

BOISE – Helen Price Harris passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Village in Boise. She was born December 11, 1915 at her grandparents’ home in Malad to Thomas Daniels Price and Esther Blodwen Davis Price. She was the second of five children. She graduated from Malad High School, where she was active in swimming, speech and performed at various competitions. She also played the saxophone in a local jazz band. Upon graduating from high school, Helen attended Utah State University and was a member of the USU Diving Team. She later enrolled in cosmetology school and graduated on September 28, 1935.

Helen married the love of her life, Orville Joseph “O.J.” Harris of Portage, UT on May 8, 1937 in Pocatello. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple in Logan, UT on June 1, 1949. In 1945 they moved to Nampa where Helen and O.J. became involved in the dairy business. In 1959, they moved to Shoshone, where the couple bought the Shoshone Sale yard. With the help of their family and the support of the community, the couple built a very successful business.

Helen’s love for beauty kept her bush creating and remodeling their homes. She enjoyed working with family members to make their surroundings more comfortable. She always had a project planned or was in the process of completing one. Helen had exquisite taste and was frequently in the process of remodeling, painting or refinishing something. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were usually involved in helping her paint, wallpaper, plant trees and flowers, along with moving her furniture around frequently. Her yard was as beautiful as her homes. Helen loved plants, especially roses and aspen trees. She taught her family the importance of unconditional love and support and she was a beautiful example to everyone.

Helen is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Cummins of Jerome; Debbie and Ted Martinez of Eagle, and Maxine and Dan Urrutia of Twin Falls; four sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kathy Harris of Jerome, Joe and Sharon Harris of Eagle; Don and Nancy Harris of Jerome, and Ray and Alena Kelly of Twin Falls; her sister, Gwen Dezember from Riverdale, UT; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter.

A service will be held February 9 at Hove-Robertson Funeral Home in Jerome. Immediately following the service, the family will proceed to the Malad Cemetery for a graveside service.
