Heber Jay Stokes, 27 May 1925

SUNSET – Heber Jay Stokes, age 77, of Snowville, UT passed away on December 7, 2002 at his home in Sunset, UT. Jay was born the eldest of six sons to William Leroy and Edith Mills Stokes on May 27, 1925 in Black Pine, ID. His parents, Bill and Edith, brothers, Tom and Billy, preceded him in death.

Jay is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lois C. Stokes of Sunset, UT. He is also survived by brothers, Jim and Boyd Stokes of Malad, ID; Ferron Stokes of Tremonton; sons, Karl, Robert and John, and daughters Mary, Kathy and Helen; stepchildren Dean Bright and patricia George; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Jay worked for and retired from Kennecott Copper Corp. after 30 years of service. He loved the Snowville area and has many relatives, friends and acquaintances throughout northern Utah and Idaho.

Jay enjoyed the mountains and the desert areas surrounding Black Pine where he was born and grew up. He loved to talk and visit with friends and would spend hours telling stories of the good ole days.

Jay is a veteran of WWII and was one of the very last Cavalry riders in the US Marine Corps Cavalry Unit. Jay was very proud to have served his country and acquired many souvenirs and mementos of his honorable service. The people, the peace and the solitude of Snowville and Black Pine will be his final resting place.

Funeral services will be held at Myers Mortuary in Roy, UT on December 11, 2002. Graveside services and interment will be held on December 14, 2002 at the Snowville Cemetery in Snowville, UT.
