Hazel Ranstrom dies March 6 [1984]

Hazel Martin Ranstrom, 87, died Tuesday morning, March 6, in a rest home following an illness. She was born to Theodore and Sarah Maria Bingham Martin in Lava Hot Springs on May 5, 1896. She was raised in Lava Hot Springs and attended school there. She married Oscar W. Ranstrom in Idaho Falls on July 3, 1915. Mr. Ranstrom died in 1942. They had made their home in Central where they farmed and after Mr. Ranstrom’s death she made her home in Pocatello. She was employed for many years at the Gordon Pie Company.

She was a member of the LDS Church and served as Primary president at Central. For over 60 years she was a Relief Society visiting teacher, she was also a teacher in Relief Society and in Sunday School. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, writing poetry and crocheting.

Survivors include a son, Merrill Ranstrom, Arimo; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Bette) Rouse, Portland, Ore.; a brother, Irvin Martin, Ogden, Utah; a sister, Mrs. Cleon (Lula) Archibald, Hagerman; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Floyd, in 1973 and a daughter, Thelma, in 1932.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 9, at the LDS 17th Ward Chapel in Pocatello with Bishop Hal Clarke officiating. Burial was in the Central Cemetery.
