HAROLD “BRIG” THOMAS

Harold “Brig” Thomas, Malad, died December 13, 1991 at his home. He was 81 years old. He was born July 15, 1910 to Emmett H. and Martha Jones Thomas in Malad, ID. There were 14 children in his family.

He married Clara Mae Anderson, August 19, 1938. She died in September of 1944. Two daughters were born, Nedra Gleed and Andrea Lambert, who is deceased.

He married Helen Cook, July 19, 1946. She died March 31, 1990. Five children were born, two sons and three daughters, Craig H., Montpelier; Keith C., Buhl; Mrs. Charlene Haderlie/Gooch, Evanston, WY; Mrs. DeAnn McCormick, Pocatello; Mrs. Wendy Thomas/Martensen, Bakersfield, CA.

He was a long term public employee, serving as Superintendent of Public Works for the city of Malad since 1960 until retirement. He also worked as a laborer for the state highway and the Griff Davis Water Company. During his tenure at the city he was in charge of constructing a new water distribution system. He was recognized for his public service in 1975 by Governor Cecil Andrus.

He enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. He spent many hours supporting his family in their activities. He touched many lives by his service to others. His knowledge of the public works will be missed.

Harold “Brig” Thomas is survived by two sons and four daughters, Craig H. of Montpelier; Keith C., Buhl; Mrs. Floyd (Nedra) Gleed, Malad; Mrs. Charlie (Charlene) Haderlie/Gooch, Evanston, WY; Mrs. Ernest (DeAnn) McCormick, Pocatello; Mrs. Steve (Wendy) Thomas/Martensen. He had 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Frank C. Thomas, Malad; three sisters, Wilorie Lewis, Malad; Mrs. Floyd R. (Nell) Hess, Malad and Mrs. O.C. (June) Wilson, Bountiful, UT.

Funeral services were held December 18 in the Malad LDS 2nd/5th Ward Chapel with Bishop Craig Sperry officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
