H. Elmer Crump (Birth 19 Apr 1897/Died 2 Nov 1984)

McCAMMON – H. Elmer Crump 87, McCammon, died Thursday, November 2, (1984) in the Marsh Valley Hospital at Downey following a long bout with cancer.

He was born at Robin April 19, 1897, to Henry L. and Amelia Easthope Crump. He lived most of all of his life in and around Marsh Valley. He was the last World War I veteran and the oldest man in McCammon.

He and his wife, Ida Vietta McClurg, have been married the longest of anyone in McCammon. They were married Aug. 1, 1924 – 60 years ago. They have enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

They moved to Orofino in August 1956 and worked at State Hospital North for 12 years, returning to McCammon in 1968, when they sold their farm and bought a home in McCammon which they still own.

He was a high priest and an active member of the LDS Church until the last few years when illness had kept him from attending.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Monte (Grace) Derricott, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Dee (Millie) Barnett, Arbon; Mrs. Dick (Nona) Hill, Missoula, Mont.; Mrs. Lynn (Una) Bullock, McCammon; three sons, Lynn Crump and Reed Crump, both of Pocatello; Norman Crump, Coeur d’lene; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchild, one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Howard Crump, McCammon. A son, Kenneth Crump, and a stepson, John G. Jones, preceded him in death, as did five grandchildren and three brothers, Willard, Harold and Leo Crump.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 3, in the McCammon LDS Chapel with Bishop Martel Gunter of the McCammon First Ward officiating. Burial was in the Norton Cemetery at McCammon. Arrangements were under the direction of Manning Funeral Chapel.
