George Melvin Facer, 81, passed away at his home Friday evening, May 23, 1997, following an illness.
He was born in Samaria, Idaho, October 16, 1915, third of seven children of Joseph Ericksen Facer and Myrtle Thorpe Facer.
In Samaria and Malad he attended elementary school. His last two years of high school he attended at Brigham City Utah. For two years he attended college in the School of Forestry, at Utah State University in Logan. In 1934 he went to the CC Camp in the Payette National Forest.
He married Thora Sorenson on April 19, 1939 in the LDS Logan, Utah Temple. She died in March 1945. He then married Melba Hokanson May 28, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She died in September of 1994.
For more than 50 years he had farmed on the Tyhee Flats. George farmed up until the day he had his stroke. He was 80 years old at that time. He was a member of the board of the Portneuf Co-op and a member of the Brigham Co-op. He loved his farm, especially when all was planted, and plenty of rain came to water the crops. These were his favorite days.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had served in a bishopric, in the elder’s quorum presidency, as high priest leader, as a home teacher, and in the Sunday school presidency.
Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharlene and Dennis Ubarski, Maricopa, Ariz.; a daughter, Patsy Facer, Pocatello; daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Kenneth Vistercil, Teton, Idaho; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Afsaneh Facer, Tucson, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Barry Wardle, Pocatello; 18 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and another great-grandchild on the way, also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Dee Williams, Malad, Idaho; three brothers and their wives, Roberts and Wynne Facer, Livermore, California; Grant and Doris Mae Facer, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Clarence and Janey Facer of Urbana, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thora, and his wife, Melba, son, Craig, his parents and two brothers.
The family would like to thank Idaho Home Health Care Hospice for all the kindness and help to our family and all the loving care they showed to our father. Thank you.
Funeral services will be May 28, 1997 at 10 a.m. in the Bringhurst LDS Chapel at 140 Bringhurst, Chubbuck. The family will receive friends this evening, May 27, from 7-9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., Pocatello, and at the church Wednesday, one hour before services. Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery, Groveland, Idaho.
