SERVICES TUESDAY FOR GEORGE G. (GILL) SWEETEN

Funeral services were held at the Yale Second LDS Ward in Salt Lake City Tuesday for George Gillis (Gill) Sweeten, 87.

A Salt Lake City court bailiff, former Box Elder County commissioner and active Democratic party worker, Mr. Sweeten died Saturday at his home in Salt Lake City of causes incident to age.

A member of the LDS Church, Mr. Sweeten owned and operated Sweeten’s Mercantile Store in Garland from 1922 to 1945 and from 1911 to 1922 owned a mercantile store in Collinston. He had owned and operated an apartment house in Salt Lake City and had served as an inspector for the Utah State Liquor Control Commission. He had been a bailiff in the Third District Court in Utah the past 10 years.

He had served as choir president in the Yale Second LDS Ward.

A son of Robert and Amanda Hagle Sweeten, he was born Jan. 17, 1876 in Mendon, Utah. Mr. Sweeten married Sara Evans on Oct. 28, 1906 in Malad and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Mrs. John S. (Orpha) Boyden, Salt Lake City; four grandchildren; a brother, Colen, Malad; two sister, Mrs. Iduma S. Cragun, Ogden; Mrs. Chloe S. Sheriff, Salt Lake City.
