GEORGE TOVEY DIES THURSDAY MORNING

George Chivers Tovey, 70, well known Oneida County farmer, sheep man and civic leader died May 9, 1957 of heart ailment at his home in Malad.

Mr. Tovey was born at Malad on February 19, 1887, a son of George and Sarah E. Chivers Tovey. A member of the LDS Church, he attended the USAC at Logan and then engaged in farming and sheep raising until his retirement a few years ago. He married Florence May Reese, September 15, 1908 at Malad. Mrs. Tovey preceded him in death. Mr. Tovey had served as chairman of Board of Oneida County commissioners and also as a member of the Malad City council.

Surviving are two sons and daughter: DeVere Tovey, R. Tovey, Mrs. Elaine Rumsey of Malad; nine grandchildren, two brothers, J.C. Tovey, Leo W. Tovey, Venice, CA.

Funeral services were held May 11, 1957 in the Malad LDS Stake Building with Bishop Colen H. Sweeten, Jr. of the Malad 4th Ward officiating.

Family prayer was given by Ray Don Reese. At the chapel prelude and postlude was by Margaret Laws, invocation by Espy Thomas, Obituary and Remarks by Bishop Sweeten. A vocal solo by Jenkin Palmer and speakers were D. LeRoy Thomas and C.H. Sweeten, Sr. A vocal solo was by Robert Reese and the benediction by Dr. O.H. Mabey. At the cemetery J. Guy Benson offered the dedicatory prayer. Flowers were carried for by relatives and friends with the 4th Ward Relief Society in charge. Casket bearers were James Chivers, Louis Reese, Clyde Bowen, W.E. Evans, Thomas D. Price and Thomas J. Lusk.
