FRED W. THOMAS EARLY PIONEER PASSES; AGE 62

Death followed complications which resulted from a crushed foot caused by auto accident.

Malad lost another of its native born sons of early days in the death of Fred W. Thomas, 62, well known farmer throughout the valley who died at his home April 4, 1931. Mr. Thomas unfortunately crushed his foot in an automobile accident a month ago and for the past two weeks had been suffering from a severe case of inflammatory rheumatism which resulted in his death.

Mr. Thomas was born at Malad, Idaho February 22, 1869, a son of Fredrick and Ruth Thomas, both deceased, in which place he has resided until his death. He married Mary Ellen Jones of Malad on December 14, 1869, who survives him and from that union were born nine children; three of whom remain to mourn his decease including Mrs. Mary Peterson of Garfield, UT; Miss Ruth E. Thomas of Malad and Victor Thomas of Pocatello. He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph H. and David P. Thomas, and six sisters, Mrs. Ruth Goddard, Mrs. Mary j. Jones, Mrs. Lillie Caldwell, Mrs. Jeanetta Thorpe, all of Malad; Mrs. Esther Bowen of Lehi, UT and Mrs. Eliza Waldron of Samaria.

The deceased held the position of an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints and had hosts of friends which he had made everywhere he went, in his journey throughout life. He had a very sunny disposition and an outstanding characteristic which he possessed was that of giving encouragement and cheer to friends in time of sickness or trouble.

Funeral services were held Monday in the First Ward Chapel with T.F. Budge of the First Ward Bishopric presiding and musical selections and speakers as follows:
