FERN SASSER WILLIAMS

Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, 94 years old, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2012 at the long term care facility in Beaver, UT. Fern was born in Holbrook, ID on November 29, 1917. She was the sixth of nine living children born to Luther Blaine and Helena Michaelis Sasser, and was the last surviving member of her family. Fern had a wonderful childhood in Idaho with many friends and activities. She married James Gilbert Williams on November 7, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. The couple moved to Beaver, UT in 1946 where they worked, raised a family, became members in the community and owned their own businesses.

Fern was an active member of the LDS church and served in various church callings which included Young Women’s president, Relief Society president, teacher, temple worker and completed two LDS Missions to Florida with her husband. She had a deep love for the Cambodian people they served on their mission and a true testimony of the church.

Fern owned and operated Fern’s Floral in Beaver for 20 years and catering business for seven years. She was a member of the Daughter of Utah Pioneers, Business Professional Women, where she served as president and was once named “Woman of the Year”, the American Legion auxiliary and a 40 year member of the VFW.

Fern was fun loving and enjoyed being with her family and close friends. She adored her nieces and nephews. She was an excellent cook and set a fine table to entertain friends and family on special holidays. She always had cookies for the family. Her pink bunny cookies were a favorite with the grandchildren and it wasn’t uncommon for her to start a batch of cookies at 11 p.m.

She lived a very long, b=full life being an example of love and service to her family and those who knew her. Survivors: Mary Ila (Val) Smith of Beaver, UT; Janet (Marvin, deceased) Walker of West Valley City, UT; Carol (Bruce) Jolley of Springfield, OR; Dean (Jaynie) Williams of Vancouver, WA; foster son, Alvin Barton, Tohatchi, NM; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Proceeded in death by her husband and infant son, James Dale.
