ETHEL MARY JOHN RODERICK

Funeral Monday for Ethel Roderick, age 87

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Malad Second LDS Ward Chapel for Ethel Mary John Roderick, 87, who died Thursday, March 2nd, [1972] at Oneida County Hospital of natural causes.

Bishop Gordon Crowther officiated. Speakers were Roderick Howard who read the obituary; Bishop W. W. Thomas, Pres. Myron Sorensen and VaNieta Walker, who read a tribute. Family prayer was offered by Andy Bybee; invocation, by Bishop T. A. John, and benediction, by Khalil Scott. Leland Bangerter presented a vocal solo; Wayne Bangerter, a piano solo; Wynn John and sons, a vocal number. Accompanists were Wayne Bangerter and Peggy Sue John. Prelude and postlude music was played by Patsy Bybee.

Bishop Robert Waldron offered the dedicatory prayer at Samaria Cemetery. Honorary bearers were Jack Roderick and Harris Adams and bearers were DeeLynn Howard, Donald Howard, Roderick Howard, Leland Bangerter, Alan Weaver and Andy Bybee.

Benson Funeral Home directed the burial.

Mrs. Roderick was born Sept. 13, 1884, at Portage, Utah, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Rees John. She was married to John P. Roderick Nov. 12, 1902, in the Logan LDS Temple. He died September 8, 1934.

Mrs. Roderick was educated in Portage schools, was an active member of the LDS Church; served in Samaria LDS Ward as Primary president for 20 years, was teacher and secretary in the Relief Society, and teacher in Sunday School and Primary. During World War II, she was active in the Red Cross.

Surviving are a son and two daughters, John J. Roderick, Pleasantview, Idaho; Mrs. Loren (Ruth) Hays, Mrs. Donald (Bertha) Howard, Bountiful; 10 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
