MALAD – Ervin Leroy Allen, 69, 250 W. 5th North, Malad, died Friday, January 2, 1987, in the Oneida County Hospital of a heart attack.

He was born August 15, 1917 in Portage, Utah, a son of Isaac William and Francis Letitia Gibbs Allen. He grew up and attended school in Portage and graduated from Bear River High School. After high school he moved to Malad.

He married Josephine Colton March 31, 1936, in Malad. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple March 17, 1975.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

For 20 years he worked as a grade foreman for the Marion J. Hess Construction Co. For the past 19 years he owned and operated the Ervin L. Allen Construction Co.

He was an elder in the LDS Church and served on the city council for eight years. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65. He belonged to the Malad Bowling League.

He is survived by his wife, Malad; one son, Garry M. Allen and one daughter, Colleen Anderson, both of Malad; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Duggan Allen, Ogden, Utah; Gibbs Allen, Portage, Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Wilford (Vera) Dredge, Fruit Heights, Utah; and Mrs. Jay (Cleopha) Stewart, Bountiful, Utah.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 1987, 12:00 noon at Malad LDS 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop J. Marvin Hess Officiating.

Casket Bearers were grandsons, David Anderson, Hutton Anderson, Brad Anderson, Terry Nelson, Kim Allen, Kirk Allen, Todd Allen and Brooks Allen.

Concluding service was at the Malad City Cemetery and Dedicatory Prayer was given by Wilford Dredge.

Compassionate service and care of flowers was by 3rd Ward Relief Society, Helen Thomas, President.

Military Rites was performed by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post N. 65.
