Emma Louise Spencer Ward, (1916)

WARD, EMMA LOUISE SPENCER, August 28, 1916 – January 30, 2004

Emma Louise Spencer Ward, longtime resident of Malad, passed away at home on January 30, 2004, due to natural causes.

She was born August 28, 1916 in Salt Lake City, UT, a daughter of William Walter and Lorena Whitehead Spencer. She was raised and educated in Malad and later attended Brigham Young University, where she excelled in her study of piano and organ. During her junior year, she was one of three university student accompanists for the male chorus, ladies chorus and mixed choruses under the direction of Dr. Fran Madsen and Dr. Florence Jeppesen Madsen. She was presented in piano recitals, won district honors in her musical work and was involved in membership in the Upsilon Mu, an honorary fraternal organization open only to those attaining unusual honors in music. She was honored as nominated queen in her social unit at BYU. Emma became a dedicated piano teacher, a gifted accompanist, giving freely of her time and talents. Her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren carry on the legacy of playing piano, organ or being involved with music in various and professional ways.

Emma will be missed by all who knew and loved her, for she was truly a noble soul who lived an unselfish life. To her husband, Golden, Emma was a true help mate, to her children, a wonderful, caring mother and special grandmother and great-grandmother.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she possessed a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a love for the Savior.

Emma is survived by her husband, Golden C.; five sons: J. Golden (Alice), J. Spencer (Arline), Richard A. (Helen), Ryan D. (Bobbie), Kenneth W. (Tracy); three daughters: Mary Louise, Lorene Kay Marsing (Carl), and Carol Dawn; 41 grandchildren; and 63 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded I n death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on February 3, 2004 in the Malad Stake Center. Interment will be held in the Malad City Cemetery.
