Emil Albert Ekstrom
October 12, 1938 – October 11, 2022

Emil Albert (Abe) Ekstrom (83) passed away Tuesday Oct 11th, 2022, in Pocatello Idaho, surrounded by his loved ones. He was one day away from his 84th birthday.

Albert was born October 12, 1938, in Malad to Levi B. Ekstrom and Emma S. Henriksen. He was the first baby to be born in the Malad hospital which is today known as the Oneida County Clinic. He was the 10th of 11 children in his family.

Abe fell in love with Vicki Sue John and they were married Feb 3rd, 1959. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. They have 4 children, Marvin Albert (Sondra), Timothy Cecil, Staci Sue, and Jennifer Lynn (Shawn).

Albert provided for his family by working as an auto mechanic. In 1966 he purchased his shop that is known today as Alberts Service. He was still working up until this last Saturday. In 1982 they expanded the business to include towing services. Many members of the community were back up and driving after a breakdown due to Alberts knowledge and dedication to his work. Abe was an extremely hard worker and enjoyed spending his days at his shop working side by side with his two sons that help run the family business. The family is grateful for all the community support and especially thankful for all the FORD owners out there that have kept the business going. Albert also worked many years as an Oneida County School Bus driver. He put a lot of miles on those yellow buses getting students back and forth to school and sporting events safe and sound.

Abe taught the family that life was not all about work. Albert has not only a love for horses but a passion for working with them. Albert and the family traveled all over participating in cutter racing and flat track racing with Albert’s colts that he bred and raised. Many memories were made standing at the finish line cheering him on. Albert also loved his toys! Snowmobiles, a new Chevrolet, and in his later years a Polaris General to run around town in.

Albert was above all else a family man. He definitely passed down the ideals of having a great work ethic, but more importantly that family is everything. Along with his 4 children, he has 9 grandchildren and 16 ½ great grandchildren who will miss him greatly.

Albert is survived by his wife Vicki, their 4 children and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. His brother Jay and two sisters Hazel and Dixie. He was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Emma. His brothers Levi, John, Donald, and Grant and his sisters Doris, Pearl and Gloria.

Funeral services will be held on Monday October 17th, 2022, at noon at the Malad Second Ward Church. Friends may visit with the family Sunday evening from 7pm to 9pm at the Horsley Funeral Home and Monday morning from 10:30am to 11:30am. Burial will follow at the Malad City Cemetery.
