Elmer L. Peters

PETERS, ELMER L. – August 7, 1917 – February 6, 2003

Elmer L. Peters, age 85, died at Evanston Regional Hospital on February 6, 2003, leaving an ache in the hearts of his family and many friends. Pete, as most of his friends knew him as, was born on August 7, 1917, in Clifton, Idaho, the son of Elmer Ray and Eva (Larson) Peters.

Peter married Nadine “Nickie” Smith of Malad, Idaho, on September 23, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Evanston, Wyoming, for twenty-one years where they owned the original Pete’s Roc En, Rye Club. Pete was a director for the Wyoming State Liquor Dealers Association. He was also the originator of the Evanston Trap Gun Club. He was also active in Lion’s Club, Cowboy Days Rodeo Association, and The Stinkers Boat Club activities. He lived in Tremonton, Utah for twenty-one years where many homes benefitted from his skills as an excellent, meticulous painter before returning to Evanston for the last fourteen years. Throughout his life, Pete’s interest included hunting, gardening and following Utah Jazz basketball, but his real passion and skill was fishing. He had the patience and skill to tie flies, build graphite fishing rods and could tease most fish from their hiding places. Pete enjoyed the comraderie of his fishing friends and particularly delighted in teaching his grandsons the art of casting a fly line on a stream or learning patience in a boat.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine “Nickie” of 56 years,; one daughter Christina and son-in-law Ross Poore, Layton, Utah; Grandchildren Ryan (Cindy) Poore and Ben Poore; great-grandson, Riley Poore; one sister Velda Durney, Fremont, California; Sisters-in-law: Eva Burns, Bountiful, Utah; Jean Peters, Idaho; and Dorothy Peters, California; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph and James; and two sisters, LaVenna Valdez and Wanita Peters.

Memorial services were conducted on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Uinta County Senior Citizens Center.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Crandall Funeral Home of Evanston, Wyoming.
