Mae Elizabeth (Betty) Deschamps, 82, died Wednesday, May 24, 1995 in a Boise care center. She grew up and received her education in Malad, graduating from Malad High School in 1930. She received her teaching certificate from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She loved to learn and continued taking classes throughout her life, attending the University of Virginia, University of New Mexico and Eastern Montana College of Education.

Betty married her high school sweetheart, Ray Deschamps on December 25, 1935 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on March 27, 1959. Betty and Ray had been married 60 years at the time of her death.

Betty was a teacher for many years, beginning at Faith Lutheran Kindergarten in Arlington, Virginia. She operated her own private kindergarten in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Billings, Montana, and also taught second grade at the American School of Bogota, Colombia. She had lived in many places due to Ray’s work with the government. These included Portland, Grant’s Pass and Corvallis, Organ, Denver, Colorado, Amerilla, Texas, Boise, Idaho, Arlington, Virginia, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Billings, Montana, Bogota, Colombia, Managua, Nicaragua, Caracas, Venezuela and for the past 26 years in Tucson, Arizona.

Betty and Ray loved to travel, and had visited many countries in Central and South America, the Orient and Near East. They had also visited Australia, New Zealand, and Russia.

She was a member in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities through the years. She was the Primary president, a teacher, visiting teacher for more than 50 years and served in several Relief Society presidencies.

She is survived by her husband, Ray, who lovingly cared for her in recent years; her daughter, Diane (Mrs. Scott) Robertson of Boise, Idaho; and six grandchildren: Colin Robertson and his wife Samantha of Seattle, Washington, Noelle, Ann and Gage Robertson of Boise, Jason Robertson of Seattle, Washington, and Whitney (Mrs. Bret) Edward of Rotterdam, The Netherlands; and one sister Mrs. Dephane Taylor of Malad. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Dennison B. King.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, May 27 at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
