Edward T. Owens, 57, of Malad arrived in a Pocatello hospital shortly after midnight Wednesday of injuries sustained when his car skidded and left the highway between Pocatello and Blackfoot earlier Wednesday evening.
Other occupants of the car, Mrs. Owens and son, Steve, escaped with minor injuries. The Owens were enroute to Idaho Falls to visit a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie John, and family when the accident occurred.
Mr. Owens was born at Malad Feb. 15, 1893, a son of John and Mary Owens. He was married to Elizabeth Jones Nov. 23, 1920 and four children were born to them.
A member of the LDS church and the Ernest W. Jones Post of the American Legion, Mr. Owens farmed in Oneida county, served two years as sheriff and six years as a Malad City policeman.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie John, Idaho Falls; Miss Betty Mae Owens, Pocatello; two sons, Dell Owens, Ogden, Utah; Steve Owens, Malad; three brothers, Sylvester, Ogden, Utah; Ray, Salt Lake City; Thomas, Long Beach Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Irene Chivers, Malad.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed at the time the Enterprise went to press.
Bishop Jesse Hughes presided at funeral services conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Third Ward chapel for Edward T. Owens who died Wednesday at 9 p.m. from a heart attack at the home of his daughter, Betty, at Pocatello following a car accident which occurred about 1:45 p.m. that same day. Darrell Swartz offered the prayer at the home; Grant Ripley the invocation and Bud Sorenson of Scipio, Utah, gave the benediction. S.M. Powell played the prelude and postlude. The speakers were Dr. O.H. Mabey and W.W. Thomas. Bishop Hughes gave the obituary and Mr. Sorenson gave a few remarks.
The musical numbers consisted of duet: Thom. Jones and Jenkin Jones accompanied by Mrs. Emma Ward; solo, Melvin Atkinson accompanied by Irene Atkinson; solo, J. Guy Gleed accompanied by Mrs. S.A. Hendricks. Guy Benson dedicated the grave.
Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion. Taps were played by Trevor Hughes.
