Earl D. Shafer died at Utah home April 3

Earl Duane Shafer, 57, died Sunday, April 3, at his home in Washington terrace, Utah, following an extended illness.

Mr. Shafer was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Rupert, a son of Alonzo A. M. and Sarah M. Williams Shafer.

On Aug. 8, 1941, he married Elizabeth Smack in Malad. They were later divorced. He was married to Elaine Stephens on Feb. 11, 1974, in Malad.

He was semi-retired and had been owner and operator of Shafer and Sons Trucking Co.

He had lived in Rupert and Malad, and had been a rancher in Huntsville before moving to Washington Terrace.

He was educated in Malad and Ogden and was a member of the Washington Terrace 7th LDS Ward. He had also been a member of the Teamsters Union.

Surviving are his widow; four sons and five daughters, Duane Shafer, Plain City; David Shafer, Robert Shafer, Monty Shafer, Mrs. Dan (Earlene) Ansley, Mrs. Dale (Sharon) Redford, Mrs. Michael (Sue) McDowell, Mrs. Ronald (Sandra) Christensen, Shaunda Shafer, all of Washington Terrace; 13 grandchildren; one stepson and two stepdaughters, Ron Stephens, Laurie Stephens, Pamala Stephens, all of Salt Lake City.

Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, LuDell Shafer, Los Angeles, Calif., William Shafer, Ogden; Mrs. Gavin D. (Shirley) Castor, Layton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel with Bishop Jack Walker of the Washington Terrace 7th Ward officiating.
