Dorothy Fredrickson Jacoby, daughter of the late John F. and Mary Lovean Fredrickson of Malad, died Monday, February 24, after a short illness in Laramie, Wyoming.
Dorothy was born in Malad April 18, 1908, attended Malad Schools and the University of Idaho in Moscow. She has for years maintained an ongoing relationship with her local Malad friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held in Laramie on Friday, February 28, 1997, where Dorothy has made her home since 1946. She will be buried in the Malad Cemetery later in the spring.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Glenn, also a University of Idaho graduate and athlete, her mother and father, brother Jack, and sister Lois. She is survived by two sons: Michael, of Evergreen, Colorado, and Peter, of Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren, Michael and Christopher.
A memorial fund for the Oneida County Hospital will be established in her memory, and a complete obituary and picture will be published in next week’s edition of the Idaho Enterprise

Longtime Laramie resident and community leader, Dorothy Jacoby, died Monday, February 24, 1997 at her home in Laramie.
Memorial services were held Friday, February 28, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Cathedral, the Very Rev. Lawrence Perry, dean, officiating.
Mrs. Jacoby received the Laramie Dailey Boomerang-Laramie Lions Club Community Service Award in 1973 in recognition of her volunteer efforts on behalf of her community and fellowman.
The award noted that “Dorothy Jacoby is a charming, energetic woman (who) works from an organizational and personal base that has a strong religious background. She believes that our greatest asset in Laramie is people and their well-being is tremendously important. In every organization to which she belongs, she has served a vital role. Her benevolent activities touch all ages, economic groups and nationalities in our community.
She was born April 18, 1908, in Malad City, Idaho, a daughter of John F. Fredrickson and Mary Lovean Olson.
She attended the University of Idaho and received a B.A. in music. She was an instructor of voice for four years on the University of Idaho faculty, leaving that position to study music in New York City.
While in college she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Mortan Board (senior women’s national service honorary), and Sigma Alpha Iota, national music honorary.
Dorothy Fredrickson and Glenn J. “Red” Jacoby were married September 20, 1935, in Pocatello, Idaho. A newspaper account of the wedding noted a tribute to Mrs. Jacoby from her 1930 classmates that she was “Idaho’s most gracious exponent of the charm doctrine.”
The Jacobys moved to Laramie in 1947 when Red Jacoby was appointed director athletics at the University of Wyoming. Throughout her husband’s tenure at the helm of UW athletic programs, she was an avid supporter of UW athletic programs and was known as a most charming hostess.
Dorothy Jacoby was active in a wide range of organizations and community projects during her nearly 50 years in Laramie. She served on the Cathedral Home for Children board; the Albany County Family Planning Board; the Budget Committee of the United Fund and the Albany County welfare office, participating in clothing solicitation, carry-in meals, home hospitality and numerous other efforts.
As a member of the State Art Board she was also active in art promotion projects and was an active presenter of art in grade schools. Mrs. Jacoby was among the original founders of the Albany County Foundation Board.
A dedicated support of the Albany County Public Library, Mrs. Jacoby was active as a volunteer of the Albany County Library and solicited funds for the library in the move from the old building to the new one.
Her musical talent was put to use in service to others in numerous ways. She was the pianist for over 25 years at Albany Manor (presently Community Care Center); a member of the Musical Arts Club, the Piano Club, the University of Wyoming Symphony Board and served as pianist, organist and director of the choir for St. Matthew’s Episcopal Cathedral.
Mrs. Jacoby was a member and past president of the university of Wyoming Women’s Club; the Albany County Republican Women’s Club; the Albany County Republican Central Committee; Laramie Woman’s Club; a 55-year member of PEO, Chapter @, in which she held every office, and served as an adviser for Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
She was an active participant on the 4-H Foundation board and served on the planning committee for opening of the University of Wyoming American Heritage Center.
Surviving are her sons, Michael and his wife, B.C., of Evergreen, Colorado, and Peter Jacoby, Houston, Texas, and two grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Jacoby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, March 6, 1973; her parents, a brother and a sister.
