Donna Lou Archibald Morgan passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003.

Donna Lou was born June 21, 1928 in Malad, Idaho, to Robert Donald Archibald and Afton Timpson. She was raised on Westminster Ave. in Salt Lake City. She graduated from South High School and the University of Utah. Donna Lou married DeMar Arnold Morgan, April 7, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they raised five children. She was an avid Ute fan and felt deeply honored to receive the Emeritus Alumni Association’s Merit of Honor Award in 1997. She received many more awards and honors including the “Governor’s Service to Folk Art Award and the Carnation Award for meritorious writing.

Donna Lou was Food Editor of the Salt Lake Tribune for 34 wonderful years. In this capacity she met many passionate cooks who she counted among her innumerable friends. Her co-workers were among her closest and dearest friends. Friends and family and her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were her most valued treasures. Donna Lou lived life to the fullest. Her motto came from Robert Frost, “I have many more miles before I sleep.”

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, DeMar, and her children Marcia and Kurt Higgins, Arnie and Kathy Morgan, Michele and Merrill Brimhall, Clay and Lisa Morgan and Eric Morgan; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (with two on the way). She is also survived by her three sisters, Lois Anne Breivik, Marjorie Jones and Karen Nilsson and one brother Bob Archibald and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law DeeAnn Butterfield Morgan.

Funeral services will be held in the Holladay 2nd Ward, 2065 E. 4675 S. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 12:00 noon. Friends and family may call Friday at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Dr. from 6-8 p.m. and from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment is at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.

At Donna Lou’s request; in lieu of flowers, “Take a plate of homemade cookies to your neighbor”.
