CARMA CAMP MORGAN

Carma Camp Morgan, 82, Lewiston, Idaho, passed away August 6, 2011 in Lewiston, surrounded by her children.

She was born August 31, 1928 in St. John, Idaho, the seventh of eight children born to Alvin Morse Camp and Margaret Pierce Camp.

Following her high school graduation, she lived and worked in the Malad Valley until 1947 when she married Edmond Morgan, Jr. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved to Moscow where they made their home for more than 60 years before moving to Lewiston in 2009.

Carma embraced life, demonstrating a youthful attitude all her years. As a longtime resident of Moscow, she was active in many civic, church and social groups. Whether it was chairing a United Way campaign, working at election polls, serving as a volunteer storyteller and “hugger” at the Special Olympics, she always gave her best and was forever anxiously engaged in good causes.

She served as a long-time secretary of the Moscow Women’s Bowling Association, enjoying every acquaintance and making life-long friends there. Carma loved to play bridge and taught lessons in her earlier years. She participated with many of the same friends in the same club for more than 50 years. She was a loyal friend to all. Other hobbies included reading, sewing, candy making and knitting. More than 300 family members and numerous friends enjoy her beautiful Christmas stockings.

After the retired as executive secretary from General Telephone Company in 1987, Carma began the next phase of her life as an artist. She worked with watercolors and oil paints, but her passion became tole painting and folk art. Attending painting conferences and workshops, she developed an expertise that was always generously shared with others.

Carma was a long-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served her church faithfully in many capacities including Relief Society president. Her love for children was manifest as she taught primary age children until her health began to decline. She and her husband, Ed, served a Welfare Service Mission where they were instrumental in guiding others to employment opportunities.

She was a loving and supportive mother to each of her children: Kay Wright and husband Dennis of Springville, UT; Jill Robert and husband Don of Lewiston; and John and wife Claire of Brooklyn, NY. She was a devoted grandmother to her nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors are her sisters, LaRue Jones of Ogden, UT and Melba Hedstrom of Las Vegas, NV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in October; her parents; and siblings, Ethel, Ann, Neith, Marion and Pete; and her granddaughter, Erin Roberts.

Funeral services will be held August 13 at the LDS Stake Center in Moscow, ID. Burial will take place on August 17 in St. John.

The family would like to thank Dr. Katrina Popham and Kathy Roberts, registered nurse at St. Joseph Family Hospice for their tireless and compassionate care of Carma, and to all of the friends who also lovingly cared for her these last weeks.
