Malad, Idaho — Don S. Evans, 87, a lifetime Malad City resident, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 following complications from an accidental fall. Don was born in his family home on January 1, 1929 to David L. and Margaret Thomas Evans. He was raised in Malad and graduated from Malad High School in the class of 1948. He attended Stanford University and the University of Idaho, graduating from the U. of I. in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart Demona (Dee) Facer on September 10, 1949 in Malad.

Don was a farmer, rancher, banker, and merchant. He was active in the Masonic Lodge as well as other service organizations. He served on the Board of the Idaho Water Users Association, Oneida County Fair Board, Idaho Horse Racing Commission, Malad Valley Irrigation Company, and Deep Creek Irrigation Company. One of his proudest business accomplishments was serving as Chairman of the Board for D.L. Evans Bank for 66 years. He also loved contributing stories and remembrances to the Idaho Enterprise.

Throughout his life, Don experienced great joy with his children and grandchildren; traveling, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and working together. He continuously maintained a positive outlook for the future of Malad and his family. Always present at community and family events, he showed his caring and supportive spirit to all he met and extended a hand of friendship to those who were facing times of hardship and difficulty.

He is survived by his wife Dee; children, Don Jr. (Kathy) Evans, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Larry (Julie Foote) Evans, of Boise, Idaho; Paula Evans (Denise Wilson) of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, (Don III (Kristina), Tiare, Larry Jr., and Anna Evans, and Peter Odorico); and great-grandchildren (Sophia and Samuel). He was preceded in death by his parents, his 5 siblings, and 3 children.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 20 S. 100 W. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 West 300 N., and Tuesday at the funeral home from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow the service at the Malad City Cemetery.
