Don Goddard
MALAD – Don Eli Goddard, 93, of Malad, passed away on August 28, 2007, at
his home in Malad.
He was born February 21, 1914, in Malad, a son of Eli “Lee” and Ann Eliza Thomas Goddard. Don was raised and educated in Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School. As a young man he had worked on a farm in Garland, Utah, and also for the Thomas Hotel in Malad.
He married Wanda Swenson January 2, 1937, in Malad. Wanda passed away February 29, 2000.
In 1942, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army, and had served in the European Theater, mostly in Germany. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
In 1945, he returned to Malad and began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 42 years. He was one of the first house-to-house mail carriers in Malad, but had spent most of the years as a rural carrier.
Don was a member of the American Legion, secretary of the Malad Bowling Association and secretary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed bowling,
bird hunting and gardening, and had especially loved fly fishing.
Don is survived by his daughter, Carla Williams of Malad; three grandchildren, Don (Jamie) Williams of Malad, Derk (Shannon) Williams of Idaho Falls, Megen (Kirk) Mace of Rexburg; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wanda, and five sisters
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007, at noon in the
Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday prior to services from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.
