Services for Dewey Nish Hess, 73, of Pocatello, who died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, will be Wednesday, April 9, 2:30 p.m. t Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave. Friends may visit with the family tonight from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Wednesday at the funeral home an hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, with military rites by the combined veterans groups of Pocatello Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 735, American Legion post 4, Disabled American Veterans chapter 3. Fleet Reserve Association No. 133 and Noncommissioned Officers of America No. 888.

Dewey Nish Hess, 73, of Pocatello, died Saturday, April 5, 1997 at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho.
He was born February 6, 1924 at Malad, Idaho to John Lawrence and Ida Isabella Nish Hess. He spent his childhood years on the family ranch in St. John Idaho. He attended a small two-room grade school in the St. John school district, and graduated from Malad High School in 1943.
From March 21, 1944, to March 4, 1946, he served in the U.S. Army during World War 11, and was released as a sergeant. While in the service he received several medals: Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Citation, European Theater Operations Ribbon, American Defense and Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, two battle stars and a Purple Heart.
On September 2, 1946, he married Jean Helm in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They ranched for the first seven years, then moved to Pocatello where Dewey worked for the railroad and PIE Trucking Company, receiving several safety awards.
On July 7, 1979, Dewey married Virginia Meadows in Pocatello. They enjoyed camping, traveling and dancing together. Dewey loved to get out into the forests and camp. He also enjoyed working around the house and around cars.
His home, apartments and cars were always in top condition. He never had a car or truck break down while using it.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; three daughters: Dew-Etta Moss of Idaho Falls; RaeDene Singleton and LuAnn Brown, both of Pocatello; one step-daughter, Sue Ann Hodge of Pocatello, and one stepson, Gordon Ursenbach of Pocatello, and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Dewey Hess.
Friends may visit with the family at the Colonial Funeral Home Tuesday April 8, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the services. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 9, at 2:30 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave. Pocatello. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello.
