Derrald Jones Chivers

Derrald Jones Chivers (Birth – 4 April, 1913)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel for Derrald Jones Chivers, 55, who died January 1st (1969) at the Oneida Hospital following a long illness.

Bishop Gordon Crowther officiated at the services with family prayer at the Benson Funeral Home being offered by Ben W. Call. At the chapel, prelude and postlude music was played by Myra Jean John who was also accompanist for the musical numbers which included vocal solos by Jenkin L. Palmer and Eldon Corbridge. The speakers were Elder John Bradley of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glen Lusk, and Bishop Crowther, who gave the obituary. Invocation was offered by J. Tommy Thorpe, and the benediction by Jon Ward.

Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery where Raiford G. Benson offered the dedicatory prayer.

Flowers were carried by wives of members of the Malad Volunteer Fire Department and friends.

Casket bearers were Keith Evans, Marion Evans, LaVar Jones, Royce Jones, Gordon Reynolds, Robert W. Thomas, with honorary bearers being Niah Davis, Theras Lewis, Sheldon Jensen, Milo Stayner, Blair Thorpe, Vernon Roberts.

Mr. Chivers was born at Malad April 4, 1913, a son of James R. and Annie Jones Chivers. Reared and educated here, he married Harriet (Ann Reese) Shone, Nov. 23, 1938, at Malad. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Idaho Department of Highways. He had also been employed by the Oneida County Highway Department and the Malad Valley Creamery Co.

Mr. Chivers was a member of the Reorganized LDS Church and the Malad Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his widow, Malad; three sons, Derrald James, Ogden; Donald Ray and Larry T. both of Malad; his parents, Malad; one brother and one sister, Boyce, Malad, and Mrs. Dean (Helen) Bennett, Twin Falls.
