David G. Richards passed away peacefully on July 13, 2009 after a gallant 23 year battle with Parkinson’s. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. Dave was born May 13, 1931 in Malad, ID to Parley and Ethel (Greer) Richards. At the age of 14 he and his family moved to Ogden, UT. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, flew 88 missions as a tail gunner in the Korean War and was awarded the Silver Medal with one Bronze Star.
After discharge he met and married Joyce Norton on February 6, 1954 in Spokane, WA. They purchased a farm near Post Falls, ID where they raised Christmas trees. Dave also worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a supervisor for Empire Construction/Boring in Spokane, WA. They retired to Coeur’d Alene in 1989. He was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church and most recently St. Pius X Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, and children, Mike (Laura) Richards, Jeff (Lynee) Richards, Greg (Con Mealey) Richards, Steve Richards, Chris (Roamie) Richards, Shannon (Mike) Frank and Doug (Shannon) Richards, 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Additionally Dave is survived by two sisters, Parla Montgomery and Beverly Staley, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Dave enjoyed fishing, camping, building, traveling, and passing the time with a good game of cards. His amazing sense of humor, infectious laugh and warm smile touched many lives. Dave’s tremendous work ethic inspired other to dream big and work hard. His love and dedication to his country family and friends will never be forgotten.
The family would like to thank the staff of Elmer’s Restaurant for being Dave’s 2nd family and giving him hours of royal treatment. Also a special thank you goes to Guardian Angel of Liberty Lake for lovingly caring for Dave.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, July 18th at 11 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, ID. A reception will follow at the Richards’ farm. Memorial contributions can be made to Horizon Hospice of Spokane, WA.
