DAVID CLAIRE JONES, SR.

OGDEN – David Claire Jones, Sr., 85, loving patriarch of our family, passed away November 5, 2011. He was born in Malad, Idaho on July 8, 1926, the son of LaVern and Margaret Edwards Jones. He grew up in Cherry Creek on the family farm. He graduated from Malad High School in 1946. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Dave married Audrie Elaine Edwards and together they had five children. They later divorced. He married Ulah Smithson in 1969, she was the love of his life.

He worked for 28 years in Ogden at the State Industrial School where he made many lasting friendships and always valued the work ethic he learned there. Once retired, Dave and Ulah spent their time between their family in Ulah and family in Arizona.

Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing, bicycling and walking (aka walking Jones). Dave family was his passion and he devoted himself to them completely. He faced his illness with the same fierce courage, grit, humor and determination that he used in facing all of his life challenges. He has left a lasting legacy of love and integrity.

He is survived by his children, David (Gayle) Jones, Jr.; Linda (Tom) Moore; Blair (Sue) Jones; and Diane Knight. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sheliece Jones (Justin); Delanie Fox (Jeremiah); Lacey and Kamryn Jones; Jason; Jared; Aaron and Jamie Knight and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ulah Jones; two sons, Blain A. Jones and Kyle C. Jones; his parents; four brothers and two sisters.

We are heartbroken and he will be dearly missed by his family but we are comforted in the knowledge that his suffering has ended and he has been reunited with his beloved wife; sons, and other family members that preceded him.

Graveside services will be held November 11, 2011 at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded.

We wish to express our thanks to the doctors and staff of McKay Dee Hospital and Mount Ogden Rehabilitation for their devoted care and to our extended family, friends and neighbors for their outpouring of love and support. A special thanks to Bonnie, his close friend/neighbor for all her love and kindness.
