Darrell G. Swartz, 81, passed away at the Columbia Hospital in Idaho Falls on Thursday, October 30, 1997.
He was born May 31, 1916 in Logan, Utah, a son of Gottlieb B. and Freda Emma Feller Swartz. He was reared and educated in Malad, and was a graduate of Malad High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1937-1939 to the western states.
Following his mission he married Ellen Alice Orf in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 29, 1939.
Darrell had lived in Malad all of his life, and had developed, expanded, and farmed the farm his parents had home-steaded at the head of Malad, in the Daniels area.
He had devoted his life to his family, work and service to the LDS Church. He loved to spend his spare time hunting and fishing with family and friends.
As an active member of the LDS church he had served as a stake mission president, a stake high councilman, and as bishop of the Fourth Ward for seven and a half years. He was also a member of the board of the Farm Bureau, and served eight years in the district council of the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Malad; four sons, Bryan (Jean) of Farmington, Utah; Anthony (Marcia), of Centerville, Utah, Maurice (Vicky) of Shelley, Idaho, and Tyler (Katherine) of Malad; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Elma John, of Malad, currently residing in Tustin, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 1997, at noon in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 West. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel, 400 North 200 West. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 West 300 North, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
