Services Tuesday For Dr. D. C. Ray

A pioneer Pocatello physician, Dr. Dailey C. Ray, 89, died at Bannock Memorial Hospital in Pocatello Saturday morning [March 19, 1966] and funeral services were held Tuesday in the First Congregational Church at Pocatello.

Burial was in the family plot at the Malad City Cemetery with ritualistic funeral services conducted by Keystone Lodge 61, AF&AM, Ted Anderson, Worshipful Master.

Born Feb. 18, 1877, at Bedford, Indiana, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Kern Ray, Dr. Ray practiced medicine in Malad for 18 years before moving to Pocatello in 1920.

Teaching in country schools before enrolling at Hospital College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Ray earned his medical diploma in 1902 when he came to Malad.

Proud of his designation as “country doctor”, Dr. Ray served Oneida County’s big area and once remarked that he never started on a call without completing it. Bobsleighs and horseback were well-known ways of travel to Dr. Ray as he made his calls.

A past president of the Idaho State Medical Society and a member of the American Medical Association, Dr. Ray was a past worthy master of the Malad Masonic Lodge, a member of the Pocatello Masonic Lodge, Pocatello; Scottish, Rite Bodies and Elks Lodge. Dr. Ray also served three terms in the Idaho Legislature, was a staff member of both Pocatello hospitals and was chairman of the old Pocatello General Hospital staff.

A member of the First Congregational Church, Dr. Ray married Martha Lewis at Malad on March 20, 1912. Mrs. Ray died Nov. 9, 1965.

He is survived by three sons, Daniel, Portland, Oregon; Robert, Brandon, Ore.; Dr. Jess Ray, Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Hyde, Campbell, Calif.; Mrs. Margaret Pendola, Yuba City, Calif.; 15 grandchildren.
