MALAD – Cora Evelyn Deschamps, 80, longtime resident of St. John, died Wednesday, January 4, (1989) in the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.

She was born May 14, 1908 in Lehi, Utah, the daughter of Edward and Cora Campbell Harrison. She grew up and was educated in Lehi and Malad. She graduated from Lehi High School.

As a young girl she worked in Malad in a meat packing store and at J.C. Penney.

She married Louis Deschamps August 13, 1927 in Malad. The marriage was later somennized (sp. solemnized) in the Logan LDS Temple.
She made her home in St. John since her marriage.

She was a member of the LDS Church and served for many years in the St. John Relief Society as president and counselor. She worked in Primary as a teacher, MIA teacher and stake genealogy worker. She served as secretary for the St. John Old Folks Day.

For several years she was a 4-H leader in cooking and sewing. She was known for her excellent handwork and cooking.

She is survived by her husband of St. John; two daughters, Mrs. DeVon (Geraldine) Andersen, Murtagh (sp. Murtaugh), and Mrs. Robert M. (Marilyn) Jackson, Salinas, California; 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Harrison, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7,1989 at 11 a.m. in the St. John LDS Ward Chapel, with counselor Lynn Stayner officiating.
Friends called Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad, and on Saturday prior to services. Burial was in the St. John Cemetery.
