Cluff Howell Petty

DOWNEY – Cluff Howell Petty, 87, of Downey, Idaho, passed away Monday, January 12, 1998, in the Idaho State Veterans’ Nursing Home in Pocatello, Idaho,
Cluff was a U.S. Army veteran and served three and one-half years during World War II.
He married Marie Palmer Hyde of Malad, Idaho on November 12, 1948, and they lived in Swan Lake until moving to Downey in 1967. Cluff was a self-employed farmer.
Cluff was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie Palmer-Hyde Petty on November 17, 1996, by his parents and one sister, Edith Petiy, and one grandson, Scott Hyde. He is survived by a brother, Roy (Hilda) Petty of Pocatello, Idaho; and three sisters, Helen Pearson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Florence Condie of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Myrtle Ann Thomas of West Valley, Utah; two stepsons, Donald (and Dianne) Hyde of Saratoga, California, Palmer (and Marilyn) Hyde of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Cluff was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many ward and stake leadership positions.
He was an avid fly fisherman, loved to tell tall tales, had a great singing voice, and a great love of music. Cluff was affectionately known as the “Candy Man” to all who came in contact with him.
Cluff will be greatly missed by family and friends.
